  There are some friendly and helpful staff here. There are also some, well not so much. That being said, I use this branch a lot because it is close to my home, but it is not my first choice. It's good that there is a branch of OPL here because this is a relatively blighted neighborhood of East Oakland, and there is little in the way of cultural access otherwise. But sadly, this branch has a limited, and somewhat outdated collection. Much of OPL's catalog must be requested for transfer here unless you can visit a larger branch. While there is computer access you should be prepared to wait, and sometimes the waiting list is too long to get on. If you have you're own laptop you can access the wifi and there are places to set up, and plug in. My number one complaint is that, probably because this branch is located in the mostly defunct Eastmont Mall, it attracts a LOT of teens. Most of them seem to have no idea what a library is, or how to act in one. It is very disheartening, and the distraction level is high. Loud, inappropriate talking, horseplay, and cellphone use is rampant. In spite of the many signs posted throughout the branch prohibiting it, cell phone use is the norm, and not just by the teens. I assume the staff feels overwhelmed, or perhaps even intimidated, and rarely intervene in any of this noxious activity. Smaller children run around as if on a playground and the general noise level is high. I'm glad to have this branch close by, as transportation is difficult for me. I appreciate the efforts of the staff to keep the branch up and running in a relatively difficult situation; there are some very dedicated and helpful people here. But if you are looking for a civilized, reasonably quiet library experience, go elsewhere.
